Consoles kin of victims and promised fair deal
Khammam, November 13, 2006The Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy on Monday rushed to Kothagudem to console the victims and assess the situation on the Singareni Coal Mines mishap wherein four persons were dead. He assured the coal workers that a high level probe into the roof fall accident in the Venkatesh Khani at Kothagudem killing four coalminers including a manager. Speaking coal workers and trade union leaders who gathered in large numbers at the 50 year old coal project, he said that the Government would go in for criminal prosecution, if necessary and fix responsibility for the tragedy.
He announced an ex gratia of Rs.7 lakhs each for the families of the four victims. This would be in addition to what they were entitled to get as per the Workmen Compensation Act. He said that the general majors killed in the accident would get a compensation of Rs.13 lakhs and Rs.11.5 lakhs respectively. The under manager and over man would be paid Rs.20 lakhs and Rs.15 lakhs respectively. He commented that while the company is striving hard to increase production and productivity should also focus its attention the direction of achieving zero accidents and fatalities. He said that the company would facilitate retention of the residential quarters for the service period of the victims. One member would be given job with suitable employment. The Chief Minister assured them that educational facilities also would be extended to the deceased family members' children.
