Ex-gratia for kin of deceased weavers to be on par with farmers
Hyderabad, November 11, 2006
The Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy speaking to media said that the Government has accepted the expert committee report. He said that the government has abolished the Value Added Tax (VAT) on handloom garments and said that the families of all weavers who committed suicide since April 1, 1997 would be eligible for ex gratia on par with farmers who ended their lives due to mounting debts.
To get the benefit, they have to produce the FIR and post morteum report to claim the benefit. As a part of the package for the revival of the handloom industry, a sum of Rs.100 crores would be spent on setting up apparel and textile parks across the State. He said allocation of Rs. 50 crores to APCO to bring down its accumulated losses and Rs.12 crore for starting new weavers' cooperative societies.
