Mayor elected unanimously
Vijayawada, November 1, 2006
M. Begum was unanimously elected to the coveted post at a special meeting of the general body of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) on Wednesday. This is the first time that a minority person was elected for the Mayor post. She will hold the post for the rest two years. The election of a new Mayor post became necessary after Tadi Sakuntala of the CPI resigned in accordance with pre-poll understanding between the Congress and her party.
