To aim at overall development of the state
Hyderabad, November 1, 2006The Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy addressing a public meeting on the occasion of Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday spelt out three priorities viz., development, good governance and welfare to achieve overall development of the State.
In his speech, he said strong foundations were laid for the development of the State during the first 30 years after the formation of the State but the priorities in the first 25 years were changed in the next 25 years. He stated had importance been given to the irrigation sector, agricultural sector would have increased and farmers would have become rich now. In the last two and half years, 12 lakh acres of additional ayacut has been created and given water.
The Chief Minister said that apart from three medical colleges in Adilabad, Srikakulam and Ongole, engineering colleges affiliated to JNTU would be set up in Karimnagar and Vizianagaram districts. The Chief Minister announced an exclusive grid for natural gas for the benefit of industry in the State. It would also ensure availability of cheap gas for domestic consumption in addition paving way for gas based industries. He said that on the power front the Government was unable to match demand and generation which landed the State in a spot this kharif. The Government was forced to purchase power from neighboring States. The Chief Minister presented medals to outstanding police and forest department personnel. The Chief Minister took the guard of honour presented by the police.
