Hyderabad, November 1, 2006

The bandh call given by the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) evoked partial response in Telangana districts. It may be recalled that the bandh call was given against the Andhra Pradesh Formation day.

The police resorted to lathi charge in Khammam where the TRS activists forced closure of shops, the bandh passed off peacefully. The protesters damaged three APSRTC buses by pelting stones in Khammam. Andhra Pradesh Express was stopped for some time at Secunderabad by TRS protesters and the Rajadhani express was detained at Kazipet. The police arrested TRS MLA G. Vijaya Rama Rao and some other TRS activists. Meanwhile, the TRS president K. Chandrasekhara Rao claimed that the bandh was total.
