Police issued instructions to tighten vigil at Cine theaters

CCTVs to be installed

Hyderabad, May 8, 2006

In the recent bomb blast at Odeon Deluxe on Sunday night, police issued instructions to the Cine Theaters to tighten security and police want them to sanitize the halls after every show. The Commissioner of Police, AK Mohanty said that such incidents could be curbed by installing close circuit televisions and door frame metal detectors in the cinema theaters and at hotels. The District fire officer who visited the accident place on Monday said that there was no proper fire safety mechanism in the complex. The Chikkadapally ACP B.Sumathi said that Odeon used to have CCTVs earlier but had removed. The police have asked them to install immediately.

The CLUES teams on Monday found a lever, safety pin and metal pieces of high explosive hand grenade that exploded on Sunday night. Police suspect that the hand grenade number may be of foreign origin and the police had contacted the army for details of the grenade.

So far, no organizations have claimed responsibility. Police are of the opinion that the bomber wanted to create panic among the public but not to kill any one. The Police Commissioner said that they have not come to any conclusion and it will take some more time. The Director General of Police, Swaranjit Sen said that they are investigating the case based on the material available. The blast material was sent to APFSL for high performance liquid chromatography to find the nature of the explosive, which can be used to track its manufacturer. This could give some clues for further investigation, he said.
