Hyderabad, May 5, 2006

The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh addressing the 39th annual Board of Governors meeting of the Asian Development Bank said that besides terrorism, the threat to environment, energy security, food security and regional imbalances were some of the key challenges faced by Asia which had been come an engine of global growth in the recent years.

Dr. Manmohan Singh said that the underprivileged sections must be helped to become partners in progress and attention must be paid to reduce the income gap between the rural and urban areas.

The Union Finance Minister, P Chidambaram expressed confidence that the Asia Pacific region will meet the challenges ahead and continue to grow towards grater prosperity and opportunity.
