Hyderabad, May 4, 2006

The Union Finance Minister P.Chidambaram said that the country is in the league of developed nations. He said that the reforms are in progress in many sub-sectors of infrastructure including roads, airports, ports, power and urban utilities.

Mr. Chidambaram said that the Government has initiated Bharat Nirman programme to develop rural infrastructure at a seminar 'Advantage India' organized as part of the 39th Annual General Body meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). He said that the average return on capital employed for multi national companies was 19 per cent and half of the companies earned higher returns.

In his speech, Mr. Chidambaram stated that India was meeting seventy percent of the requirement of world's BPO marked and was a leader in the low and medium technology area in software and services.
