Hyderabad, May 28, 2006

The Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy in a letter addressed to the members of Self Help Groups (SHG) and village organizations who were benefitted by the 'Pavala Vaddi' scheme commended them for maintaining fiscal discipline. He said that the Government is committed to empowerment and economic freedom to the women.

Dr. Reddy said that the SHGs would get Rs.3,000 crores and considering loans to the tune of Rs.10,000 crores in the next coming three years. The scheme is aimed at assisting the eligible beneficiaries through bank credit and simultaneously involving women SHGs in developmental works.

Nearly 26 commercial banks, 16 Regional Rural Banks, 12 Cooperative Banks and 3850 other banks have been implementing the scheme. He further said that the Government is planning to enhance the annual income limit for Below Poverty Line (BPL) eligibility from the existing one to Rs.60,000 in order to bring more rural poor under poverty elevation programmes.
