Hyderabad, May 26, 2006

The Government of Andhra Pradesh on Friday effected a steep increase in the licence fee for bar licences through out the State.

According to official sources, in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, where the population is more than seven lakhs, the new licence fee will be Rs.18 lakhs instead of Rs.13.30 lakhs at present. In all other 11 Municipal Corporations, it will be Rs.16 lakhs while at present it is 11.35 and Rs.14 lakhs instead of 9.25 lakhs depending upon the population. The Government also increased the area minimum required for setting up of a bar is 150 sq mts and Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) is insisted.

The Government decided to auction 6596 retail liquor outlets in the State and the licence term is two years. The Government directed the District Collectors to issue notifications on Saturday to invite sealed bids by June 2 and tenders will be opened on June 3.
