Post Department launches new scheme to get close to customers

Vijayawada, May 23, 2006

Bank on postman scheme was launched on Tuesday in Vijayawada region apart from various services being offered by the Postal department. According to the scheme, Savings Bank account holders need not go to post office for withdrawing cash and instead the cash will be delivered by the postman at your door steps up to Rs.5000 on the same day or at best the next day. However, a service charge of Rs.20 will be collected. However, the account holders have to register with the post office about this facility.

The Post Master General of Vijayawada Region said that the scheme is very useful for households, senior citizens and others who have difficulty in visiting the post office.

This noval facility by the Postal Department will be a great benefit to 9.69 lakh Savings Bank account holders in who had accounts in 32 head post offices and 721 sub post offices in Vijayawada Region. He said that during the trial period between May 18 to 22, nearly 2,175 account holders have registered for this facility and 96 of them withdrew cash. He expressed happiness over the overwhelming response to the scheme.
