AIDS Awareness campaign launched
Hyderabad, May 2, 2006
Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy launching Aasha II, a 30-day AIDS awareness campaign on Tuesday said that the State Government would extend all facilities to NGOs and social service organizations if they took up the responsibility of rehabilitating the children of people who died due to AIDS.
Speaking at the program, Dr. Reddy announced that the Government would allot land free of cost to social service organizations for setting up of orphanages for the children of AIDS victims. He said that the Government was committed for AIDS free State. He said and regretted that nearly 20 per cent of AIDS positive cases are from Andhra Pradesh and 92 per cent of the infected are in the age group of 15-49 years.
The Chief Minister announced that the Government would incorporate lessons on AIDS in school curriculum. The Union Minister of State for Health, Panabaka Lakshmi said the Union Government has earmarked Rs. 2664 crores for AIDS control measures.
