CM announces more concessions

Hyderabad, May 14, 2006

Speaking at the huge gathering of Andhra Pradesh Congress Plenary, the Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy announced several fresh, specific concessions to the small and poor people on Sunday. He said that 18 lakh power connections were disconnected due to default in payment of consumption charges. The Government has promised to give connections if the defaulters pay the dues in 20 equal installments but only five lakh people availed the offer. Now, the Chief Minister has doubled the installments to 40 for reinstating connections. The pilferage cases of 10631 were registered whose dues amounting to 12.25 crores would be dropped if they pay compound fee of Rs.500 per HP. He said a comprehensive health scheme will be formulated in the State soon.

The Government will pay two thirds of the premium amount. The APCC plenary adopted a 16 point agenda to be fulfilled by the Government. Housing, drinking water, and power connection to all, one job, one ration card to all families, pension and land for the eligible are some of the important points in the agenda. AICC general secretary and in-charge of Andhra Pradesh affairs Iqbal Singh had released a souvenir on the occasion of rededication day.
