40 million gallons water per day
Visakhapatnam, May 13, 2006The Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy on Saturday inaugurated the Rs.100 crore Godavari drinking water scheme that supply 40 million gallon tones (MGT) per day. The project has been proposed to draw water from Yeluru Left Bank Canal to cater the needs of Vizagities. According to the Chief Engineer of Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation, P. Pandurangarao, the water is drawn through the diversion of Raiwada/Mehadrigedda to reach TSR Complex.
A couple of years ago the Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation has provided a loan of Rs.60 crores to Visakhapatnam Industrial Water Supply Company (VIWSC). A tap was opened by the Chief Minister as part of the inauguration programme at TSR Complex. He said that this project will cater the needs of the old city people and hour long water can be supplied.
The Minister for Commercial Taxes Konathala Ramakrishna, Union Minister for Mines T.Subbirami Reddy and other MLAs, officials participated in the function.
