Farmer from Moodugudisela tanda dies under suspicious circumstances

Nizamabad, March 7, 2006

A farmer of Moodugudisela tanda of Bada Bheemgal died under suspicious circumstances in the lock up Bheemal police station in the wee hours of Tuesday. He was found dead with a noose around his neck around 5.30am. While the police claimed that he hanged himself with a long cloth to a window of an AC room of the BSNL telephone exchange which is also located on the police station premises, the victim's relatives and villagers alleged that he died due to police torture. Later, the police described it as a suicide.

The victim was reportedly brought to the police station for interrogation in a murder case. According to SP Mahesh Chandra Laddha, the victim was an accused in the murder case. The body of the victim was shifted to Area Hospital at Armoor where RDO conducted the inquest. Tense situation prevailed before the police station with villagers and tribal people gathering in good numbers and raised slogans demanding justice to bereaved family. Meanwhile, two policemen were placed under suspension.
