Ten killed as School Building collapsed

Cuddapah, March 5, 2006

At least ten persons including four children were crushed to death and several others trapped under the rubble when a dilapidated private school building collapsed during removal of encroachments at Mannur in Rajampet Municipality on Sunday. The Sarada School building came down with a thud when a proclain deployed by the municipal authorities was pulling down an encroached portion of the building. Meanwhile, the municipal officials and the police swung into action and retrieved six bodies before daylight faded.

The Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy announced an ex gratia of Rs.2 lakhs to the kin of the victims and an assistance of Rs.10,000 to injured persons, Joint Collector Kanthilal Dande announced at the scene of accident. The survivors were pulled out of the rubble and were rushed to the Government hospital.
