President Kalam to present the medal
Hyderabad, March 29, 2006Squadron Leader T.Srinivasulu of Air Force Station, Begumpet was awarded the Shaurya Chakra medal for gallantry by the President APJ Abdul Kalam at the Defence Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapathi Bhavan in New Delhi on March 23. A native of Kurnool district, Srinivasulu was commissioned into the Indian Air Force on June 21, 1997.
On December 26, 2004, Air Force Station Car Nicobar was devastated by a severe earthquake, which was followed by tsunami. On noticing the increasing waves, Srinivasulu immediately started warning others and advised them to move towards the runway as it was located on a higher plane. In the process of helping others, he ventured into chest deep turbulent waters and later extricated himself. Unmindful of danger to his life, he again entered the surging waters and rescued some more people mostly women and children who were clinging in trees. He suffered injuries while rescuing them.
