Asks centre for release of funds
Hyderabad, March 26, 2006
The Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy has urged the Centre to allocate Rs.700 crores as the first installment for implementing the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (NREGP) in the State. He said a communication has been sent to the Centre to allocate Rs.1400 crores while reviewing the programme. He said recruitment of programme officers was on and would be completed by April end and positioned in mandals by May 15 after an intensive programme for 15 days. Arrangements are made to open post office accounts for the labor in all 13 districts selected. Payment to farmers could be made through village organizations also.
The NREGP program was inaugurated by the Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Ms. Sonia Gandhi on February 2, 2006 in Bandlapalle, Anantapur.
