State appeals to the Centre

Hyderabad, March 20, 2006

The Minister for Commercial Taxes, Konathala Ramakrishna announced on Monday, that the cooking gas cylinder would cost Rs.22 less from April 1, 2006. The reduce in the price has become possible after the Center's acceptance of an appeal by the State Government to include the commodity under 'declared goods' of the Central Sales Tax Act which is chargeable at four per cent. Speaking at a press conference, he said the appeal for sales tax concession was made to the Centre to fulfill the Congress party's poll promise of bringing down the prices of essential commodities.

The Minister said that the commercial tax collection in the State till February this year was Rs.10, 912 crores as against Rs.9, 532 corresponding to last year.
