Endowments Regional Joint Commissioner suspended

Nellore, March 17, 2006

There is no account for 25 kgs of gold and 1100 kgs of silver ornaments offered by devotees at the Kamakshi Mallikarjuna Devastanam in Jonnavada village of Nellore district. The State Government, on Friday suspended the Nellore Endowments Regional Joint Commissioner following alleged misappropriation of funds. The Panchayat Raj Minister, JC Diwakar Reddy told the same in the Assembly that there is no record on where the ornaments are kept and the successive executive officer did not physically take possession of the ornaments.

He said an inquiry has been ordered into the misappropriation of temple funds. He agreed that some employees of the temple printed fake receipts and it came to light when some of the devotees found counterfoils flowing in the river Pennar. He said a senior assistant, three junior assistants and two attenders were suspended and a criminal case has been filed against them.
