College Principal assaulted

Complaint filed at Police Station

Hyderabad, March 17, 2006

A group of students allegedly attacked the Principal of College of Arts of Osmania University, G.Satyanarayana in his chambers on Friday as he denied permission to them to hold a meeting inside the college. The same group also allegedly beat up two activists of ABVP when they reportedly persuaded the college principal to lodge a complaint with police against the attackers. The group led by a research Scholar P.Ravi seeking permission to hold a meeting on Monday from 9am to 5pm.

The principal agreed to give permission only from 2pm to 5pm since morning classes will be disturbed. The students got furious over this, assaulted him, and even snatched a gold chain. He lodged a complaint with the police. Based on the complaint, the police booked a case against them under Prevention of Atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act and with other sections of IPC. Meanwhile, the Osmania University Teachers Association condemning the attack on the Principal called for an emergency meeting of its General Body on Saturday to decide their future course of action.
