Bill passed on banning ads
Hyderabad, March 14, 2006Come summer and most of the local newspapers were full of advertisements from colleges, mostly corporate collages which boast of ranks and marks their students achieved in various examinations such as the SSC and Intermediate Examinations.
The State Government on Tuesday has decided to ban advertisements by corporate educational institutions and tutorial colleges that make wrong and misleading claims about the success of students in public examinations. The Cabinet approved an amendment to the AP Public Examination (Prevention of Irregularities and Malpractices Act) 1977 to this effect. A bill would be introduced in the ongoing Budget sessions in the Assembly. This new bill prohibits institutions from releasing advertisements or resort to any other publicity making false claims about their ranks. The decision came in the wake of a High court directive on February 24 to the State Government to protect students and the public from commercialization of education.
