Finds TDP Government doing undue favor for the IMax Theater
Hyderabad, June 4, 2006The House Committee of the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly recommended that the issue of the erstwhile Telugu Desam government (TDP) of favoring the promoters of the Rs. 36 crore Imax complex be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for probe. The House Committee in its 38 page report submitted to Speaker KR Suresh Reddy on Sunday concluded that the theater management failed to follow due procedures and committed 34 lapses.
The Committee wanted the State Government to take over and close down the complex. The Panel Chairman R.Gurunatha Reddy, P.Janardhana Reddy (both Congress) G.Krishan Reddy (BJP) and T.Padma Rao (TRS) speaking to media persons said out of the 15 parties which submitted tenders for the complex, there were shortlisted and only two firms took part in bidding.
Though the complex did not posses any statutory clearances from the departments like Fire Services, Police, the then Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the complex. They said that the TDP Government relaxed various conditions like extending the lease period from 25 to 33 years reducing its share in revenue from ten to five per cent and also exempted the management from paying entertainment tax.
