The Satish Dhawan Space Centre, SHAR Director M Annamalai said that the second launch pad at Sriharikota will become the venue for the launch of the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) to be launched in the second week of July. The rocket will carry the prestigious communication satellite - INSAT 4C and put it into the geosynchronous transfer orbit. INSAT 4C weights about 2000 kilograms.

Powered by 12 high power Ku band transponders, the INSAT 4C is expected to boost the Direct-to-home television broadcasting and would have a 10-year mission life. The three stage GSLV rocket will be using a Russia-supplied cryogenic engine.
