TDP alleges large scale rigging

In the first phase of Panchayat Raj elections in eleven districts on Wednesday witnessed violence in several places. The police opened fire as the violence marred the polling. The percentage of polling was estimated at 68.While the Chief Minister Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy and Director General of Police (DGP) Swaranjit Sen claimed that the polling was peaceful, the Telugu Desam Party president N.Chandrababu Naidu said alleged large scale rigging and demanded re polling in Kadapa, Anantapur and Kurnool districts.
Two persons were done to death at the end of polling at Chanugondla in Dhone Mandal of Kurnool district. The police opened fire in air at ten places to quell violent mobs in Prakasam , Kurnool and Anantapur districts. The workers of both Congress and TDP clashed in Muddanur in Kadapa , forcing the gunman to open fire in air. TDP leaders and their supporters stormed the chamber of State Election Commissioner AVS Reddy to protest against election malpractices of Congress in Anantapur, Kadapa and Kurnool.
The Commission Secretary GN Rao said a re poll was ordered in four booths of B.Pochampalli mandal in Nalgonda where printing errors in ballot papers for MPTC elections were noticed.
