Becomes first PSU from state to get the award for eco-friendly coal practices

Hyderabad, June 27, 2006

The State owned Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SSCL) has bagged the prestigious national level award for Environmental Excellence from the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). The award was presented by the President, APJ Abdul Kalam to the SSCL Chairman and Managing Director RH Khwaja at a function held in Delhi on Monday.

This is the first time that a State owned PSU bagged the prestigious award for the company for promoting eco-friendly coal mining practices at Goutham Khani open cast mine in Kothagudem. Speaking to reporters,Khwaja after meeting with the Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy to whom he he explained the various activities of the company, that 125 organizations sent nominations for corporate environment awards and th jury was chaired by former Chief Justice of India JS Verma.
