State Election Commission decides to appeal before High court bench
Hyderabad, June 20, 2006A single judge of the AP High Court has set aside the election notification issued for local bodies saying it is null and void. The elections are officially scheduled to begin on June 28 and the District Administrations in various districts are already deeply involved in the activities.
Justice PS Narayana declared that the electoral rolls for the ongoing elections to Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs) and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs) were replete with irregularities. The orders were passed by the judge in a batch of writ petitions questioning irregularities including exclusion and inclusion of voters in electoral rolls prepared for various Assembly constituencies in the State.
Meanwhile, the State Election Commission (SEC) has decided o go in for an appeal before a division bench of the High Court on June 21. The SEC Commissioner AVS Reddy said that the SEC could not be blamed for any irregularity in the voter's list as it adopted the rolls prepared for the Assembly elections were held in 2004. He said that revision of electoral rolls was a continuous process and no corrections could be made once the election notification has been issued.
