The State Election Commission (SEC) on Sunday issued notification for conduct of gram panchayat elections in three phases.
AVS Reddy, State Election Commissioner and Secretary GN Rao said that elections to 21,354 out of 21,807 gram panchayats and 2,13,482 wards would be conducted on July 29, August 2 and 6. He said that the Returning Officers would re-issue notification in the Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Act on July 15. The last date for filing of nominations is July 19 and scrutiny would take place on the next day and withdrawals will be of candidature is July 23. The model code of conduct would be in force for the Mandal and Zilla Parishad elections would continue.
On July 29, 6545 gram panchayats in 26 revenue divisions will go on polls and in second phase on August 2, in 7886 gram panchayats and 78612 wards in 28 revenue divisions and in the final phase on August 6, polls to 6923 gram panchayats and 69,024 wards in 25 revenue divisions. He said that the results will be declared on the same day. Nearly 3.89 crore voters would exercise their franchise.
