Tatas to invest Rs.100 crore

Hyderabad, July 29, 2006

The Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh said at a press conference on Saturday that an exclusive Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for leather products promoted by the Tatas and a consortium of shoe manufactures will come up shortly at Tada in Nellore district.

The world class SEZ would facilitate manufacture of leather products and not have any tannery. The Tatas have initially agreed to invest Rs.100 cores to develop the SEZ at Tada. He said within three years, the complex would export leather products worth Rs.2,200 crores.

He said that the Centre had also sanctioned a National Centre for Sustainable Aquaculture at Kakinada which was likely to be inaugurated by the Chief Minister in the second week of September. Export Development Agency (MPEDA), the proposed Centre was being established in the State since 40 per cent of marine products came from Andhra Pradesh. The Centre would invest Rs.6 crores for the project.
