Department to be headed by Principal Secretary (Protocol)

Hyderabad, July 27, 2006

The State Cabinet meeting on Thursday has decided to form a separate department for Non-Resident Indians (NRI) hailing from the State to serve as a single window to solve their problems. The Department will be headed by the Principal Secretary (Protocol) and will be set up at the Secretariat. The decision was taken based on the recommendations of a study group headed by Minister for Information Mohd. Shabbir Ali.

The Cabinet gave its approval to include Patra caste in the State list of backward classes with serial No.41 in Group A in compliance with the High Court Order. The Cabinet approved Government Guarantee for Rs.59 crores to be received by National Cooperative Development Corporation to modernize cooperative sugar factories at Chodavaram, Bhimsingi, Renigunta and Kovvur.

The Cabinet cancelled an earlier allotment of 57 acres at Uutukur in Nellore district to Salt Workers' Cooperative Society on finding them that the land was used for other activities and not for the making salt.
