Eight naxals killed in encounter

State Committee Secretary Madav among the dead

Hyderabad, July 23, 2006

The police killed eight Maoists including two women naxals in an encounter in the dense forests of Nallamala forest area in Prakasam district on Sunday killing. The State Committee Secretary Madav who carrying a reward of Rs.10 lakhs on his head is also believed to have been killed in the encounter. This is the third major encounter in which the Maoists have suffered a set back in the last one and half years.

Madhav is one of the top leaders and a member of CPI(Maoist) Central Committee. He took charge from Ramakrishna last year. This is a major blow for the Maoists. However, Mahabubnagar district secretary Sambasivudu and Nallamala forest division committee secretary Pratap managed to escape.

Madav was the masterminds behind the killing of the then Panchayat Raj Minister A.Madhava Reddy in 2000 and the Alipiri blast targeting the then Chief Minister N.Chandra Babu Naidu and involved in the killings of IPS officer G.Paradesi Naidu,Ch.Umesh Chandra and MLA Ch.Narsi Reddy . In this context, the State police has put high alert. Security has been beefed up at all vital points including railway stations, Government officers and the police authorities have asked the VIPS not to venture out in the districts without sufficient security. Greyhound parties from Prakasam, Guntur, Kurnool and Mahabubnagar cordoned off Barabailupenta where Maoists were holding a meeting. The police recovered five .303 rifles, three wireless sets, one AK 47 gun magazine, three grenades, one 9 mm pistol and ammunition from the scene of the encounter. In this context, the police has sounded red alert in several districts.
