Australian High Commissioner meets Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister

Hyderabad, July 19, 2006

Australian High Commissioner John McCarthy met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy and Energy Minister Mohd. Ali Shabbir on Wednesday. The High Commissioner said that Australia will be exporting coal for the new power stations that are coming up at Krishnapatnam in Nellore District. Krishnapatnam has been picked for the power projects because of the availability of land and water supplies. The coal from Australia will be coming via sea route.

The Australian High Commissioner who also met the State Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy said that the country will be extending support for sectors such as Biotechnology and food processing. The country will also be helping the Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University in areas of agricultural research. The Agriculture Minister was happy with the invitation by the High Commissioner to visit his country. The Minister said he would be visiting Australia during August to study their agricultural practices.
