TDP gets 2 out of 19
Hyderabad, July 10, 2006
Congress nominees were elected as Zilla Parishad Chairpersons in 17 out of 19 where elections were held while the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had to confine only two with Ranga Reddy and Adilabad districts.
Elections were rescheduled in Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Warangal for want of quorum as the Congress and TRS members abstained following differences. It is evident that the Congress made a clean sweep in all 13 Zilla Parishads in Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema. A surprise move took place in Anathapur in the last moment when two of the TDP defected to Congress resulting to ZP Chairmen ship to Congress.
In Khammam, luck struck to Congress party nominee who was elected as chairperson through draw of lots among three contenders. The TDP accused the Congress Ministers JC Diwakar Reddy and N.Raghuveera Reddy of resorting to horse trading while the Congress claimed that the TDP leadership humiliated the members who crossed over.
