Andhra Pradesh Government keen on setting up a new NRI Deparment for Andhra-based NRIs
Hyderabad, January 9, 2006
A separate Non-Resident Indian Department is being set up to work for the welfare of overseas Indians hailing from Andhra Pradesh. Speaking at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas function on Monday, the Minister for Information Md.Ali Shabbir said that efforts were on to create a single window system cell to provide various services under one roof to benefit the visiting expatriates and NRIs coming to the State.
The Minister said that the NRI department would provide counseling and guidance to perspective and present NRIs in the Gulf on various issues. A consultancy service for saving and investments for the prospective NRIs would be provided in addition to assistance in liaising with various departments. The Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy would head the department. An overseas employment exchange and creation of manpower corporation to meet the labor demand overseas were also planed. He said that Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad University had agreed to introduce Distance Education Programs for Gulf NRIs. The setting up of the new NRI Department by the State Government shows the interest of the Government to cater to the needs of Andhra Pradesh NRIs.
