HICC is Sotuth Asia's largest Convention Center
Hyderabad, January 7, 2006
South Asia's first world class offering and India's largest, the Hyderabad International Convention Center (HICC) was formally declared open by the Prime Minster, Manmohan Singh ahead of the inaugural of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2006 on Saturday. HICC is expected to play a major role in the emerging convention business in India. A joint venture between Dubai based Emaar Properties and the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Limited, it was built by Cyberabad Convention Center Private Limited.
HICC General Manager Philip Logan said Hyderabad was Shanghai in the making. In a location where corporates like HSBC and Microsoft have presence, such a convention centre would be ideal. Globally, the Frankfurt centre is 25 times HICC'S size and the Sydney centre is six times. After the HICC and Novotel, the group would complete a nine hold golf course by April 2006 in a phase one, with phase two scheduled for completion six months.
