First ever Kalachakra initiation programme begins at Amaravathi
The first ever Kalachakra initiation programme on such a large scale with the active participation of Andhra Pradesh Government began on Thursday with the Dalai Lama invoking land and consecrating it as part of Earth Ritual prayer. At the inaugural session the Dalai Lama asked all Tibetans and Buddhists to be grateful to the State Government and Busshokai Centre of Japan for providing them with the opportunity to participate in the Kalachakra at the place where Lord Buddha gave his first Kalachakra teachings.
Guntur, January 5, 2006
The unique feature of Kalachakra 2006 is convergence of several religious rituals during this period contrary to the general practice of holding them separately at different place. A special teaching was given to a selected 40 disciples of the Dalai Lama for three hours after each ritual. More than 15000 Buddhists attended the inaugural rituals that began at 7am and went on till the evening on Thursday.
