Thousands offering prayers at the Ramakrishna Math in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, January 26, 2006Swami Paramarthananada, President of Ramakrishna Math died of cardiac arrest at a private hospital on Thursday afternoon. Number of devotees thronged the math after the body was shifted from the hospital.
The math staff offered prayers as a long queue of grief stricken devotees waited to have a glimpse of the body. He was admitted to the hospital with lung infection on January 10 when he was diagnosed for multiple organ failure and he was allowed to participate in the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda on January 21 but he was immediately rushed back to the hospital as his condition became serious. He took over as the Math president from Swami Ranganathan in 1997 after the latter was appointed to head the Ramakrishna Mission. The Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy condoled over his death.
