State Government to go with panel recommendations
Hyderabad, January 24, 2006The State Government has decided to go ahead with the recommendations of the nine-member panel that specified that the height of the prestigious Polavaram project. This was announced by Major Irrigation Minister Ponna Lakshmiah in a press conference held at Hyderabad. The panel is headed by Mr. Preetam Singh who is a former Chairman of the Central Water Commission (CWC).
The State Government dismissed the idea of the CPI (M) which suggested for the construction of a series of barrages to minimize submersion. It felt that the idea would not be beneficial.
