UPA to look for Second SRC decision on Telangana statehood

Hyderabad, January 22, 2006

The Chairman of the UPA Sub-Committee on Telangana, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee said that the UPA Government is not worried about the two-months deadline given by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief Mr. K Chandra Sekhara Rao.

Speaking at the venue of the 82nd AICC Plenary Sessions, Mr. Mukherjee said that the Congress Working Committee (CWC) has indeed expressed opinion of having Telangana and Vidarbha in its resolution on October 30, 2000. He felt that there are both advantages and disadvantages of having smaller states and that these should be addressed by a Second States Reorganisation Commission (SRC).
