The UPA chairperson and Prime Minister after arrival by a special IAF aircraft on Saturday drove to the first AICC session was held on Mehdipatnam in 1953 after liberation of Hyderabad State from the Nizam's rule. The first thing that UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi did after flying into the State capital for the 82nd AICC plenary was to unveil a pylon installed at Nanal Nagar crossroads in memory of freedom fighters. Earlier, at the airport, the VVIPs were accorded a warm welcome, among others, by Governor Sushil Kumar Shinde, Speaker KR Suresh Reddy and Union Ministers S.Jaipal Reddy along with the Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy and PCC chief K.Keshavarao.

On Sunday, Ms. Sonia Gandhi will unfurl the party flag in the morning to mark the inauguration of the plenary. After Vandemataram, the welcome speech, condolence and constitutional resolutions and reports by general secretaries, the floor will be taken over by the Subjects Committee with opening remarks by the party president. On the agenda are resolutions on political, economic, international affairs and on agriculture, employment and poverty. The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will address the gathering on the second day.
