Access to legal information now made easy

Hyderabad, January 20, 2006

The Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy on Friday formally launched eJustice website, ejustice.org.in and appreciated the officials involved in the project. It is a joint venture of Centre for Good Governance (CGG), National Institute for Smart Governance and UN Development programme. He said and that justice would be available at the click of the mouse to marginalized sections. PK Mohanty, CGG Director General said that the project was the first of its kind in the country providing access to legal information through the web and kiosks and Rajiv Internet Village kiosks according to an official release.

The release said people can download and print legal forms such as promissory note and send online queries to the State/District Legal Services Authority or legal experts CGG for assistance. The authority, based on eligibility and nature of the grievance will refer the case to a court system or Lok Adalat or both, free of cost. A citizen can also know the status of his/her case through the portal or at the kiosk. The CGC in consultation with the NALSAR, Legal Services Authority and the Revenue, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development departments has simplified and translated numerous laws into Telugu covering issues relating to land, women, labour and other general subjects like promissory note, FIR, bail etc.
