APSRTC is in heavy losses due to increasing fuel costs
Hyderabad, January 10, 2006People of Andhra Pradesh will now have to shed few more rupees for bus journeys as it is almost clear that APSRTC is considering increasing the bus changes. A formal approval from the Chief Minister is awaited. The last time APSRTC increased its ticket fare is in February 2003.
APSRTC, the official road transportation organization for Andhra Pradesh, runs over 19,600 buses out of which 12,000 are ordinary buses, most of which connect the rural parts of the state. APSRTC is in loss for the past few years - particularly because of the increase in fuel charges and taxes during the past few years. APSRTC spends Rs. 9 Crores to fun its fleet everyday while its earnings range between Rs. 7.8 to 9 crores.
