Teams formed to check safety
Hyderabad, February 8, 2006
The Municipal corporation of Hyderabad has decided to press in five teams each headed by a senior official to check for fire safety measures in all the multi storied buildings of 18 metres height and above under its jurisdiction. The teams headed by Additional Commissioners will start their inspections from Thursday onwards.
MCH Commissioner Sanjay Jaju told to media on Wednesday that 100 odd multi storied buildings have been identified for checking of which about 65 were given permissions in the last ten years. He said that each team will have a structural engineer, town planning and fire service officials. He called the exercise 'fire evaluation and sensitization strategy' to find out whether the buildings comply with fire safety norms. He expects that the teams to complete the task within ten days.
