Rajahmundry - East Godavari, February 7, 2006

In a major fire accident at Simhachalam Nagar of Rajahmundry on Tuesday, 250 houses were destroyed. Over 350 families lost their property worth Rs.30 lakhs. However, there were no casualties. Fire tenders from AP Paper Mill, ONGC, Kovvur, Anaparti and HPCL brought the fire under control.

The District Collector, Praveen Prakash who rushed to the spot assured the victims of taking all the necessary steps for their rehabilitation. He asked in charge sub collector CSudarshan Reddy to provide immediate assistance like alternative accommodation, food and 5 kg of rice to each family. According to the victims, fire broke out when a woman in one of the houses in the colony was cooking with firewood.
