Hyderabad, February 6, 2006

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) announced fare hike effective from intervening night of February 7 and 8 on Monday. The hike ranges from three paisa per km for ordinary services to 10 paisa for the super luxury Volvo buses. The fare per km in ordinary buses will be hiked by three paisa from 35 paisa to 38 paisa while the increase would be four paisa per km 40-44 paisa and 45-49 paisa in express and luxury buses respectively. Journeys by hi-tech buses will cost 57 paisa per km from 52 while Volvo it will Rs.1 instead of 90 paisa.

APSRTC Chairman G Prakasa Rao and Managing Director MV Krishna Rao signed paper to this effect at a board meeting held on Monday. The cost of concessional passes issued to students, senior citizens and NGOs have been left untouched as were season tickets of different categories.
