Sunday averts casualities in Koti fire
Hyderabad, February 5, 2006An early morning blaze completely gutted three floors of the landmark eighth storey Pushpanjali shopping complex at Koti. The fire began at 7 am on Sunday accounted for the lack of causalities, Koti is otherwise one of the most crowded and the commercial complex is itself packed with dozens of popular shops.
Later in the night, the District Collector, Arvind Kumar ordered shopkeepers to vacate the complex by 6pm on Monday. He said that the MCH has declared the building unfit for public use and will be demolished soon. The fire brigade used 100 tankful of water to douse the blaze using 16 fire engines, one of them summoned from Patanheru. The building houses cloth showrooms, bookshops, a chit fund company office, a blood bank, college, studio, marketing and telephone company. A fireman also sustained injuries. Deputy Commissioner of Police, East, KV Rajendranath Reddy said the case of the fire was sparks from gas cutters.
