Srisailam gets ready for Maha Sivarathri
Chitoor, February 20, 2006Temple town Srisailam is ready for Maha Sivaratri Brahmotsavam to begin from February 23 to March 1. All Abhishekams formed routinely at the 'Garbhalaya' of Mallikarjuna Swamy were cancelled in view of the heavy rush of devotees from different states mainly from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh offered prayers at the temple. Serpentine queues of pedestrian devotees were witnessed along the roads bound for Srisailam.
The Mallikarjunalingam in the temple occupies a unique place among the twelve 'jyotirilngas'. The sacred hill mala ranges of Kurnool district is one among the astada sakthi peethams. Srisailam Devastanam chairman Setty said four queue complexes were set up one each for Rs.50 holders, VIPs, Sivaswamulu and Sarvadarshan. He said there has been an increase of 40 per cent of Sivaswamulu this year when compared to the last year. APSRTC Kurnool Regional Manager K.Prabhakar Reddy said over 500 special buses would ply to Srisailam on the occasion of Maha Sivaratri.
