Over Eight Lakh devotees expected
Warangal, February 14, 2006Arrangements have been made for the successful conduct of Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara scheduled to begin from February 15 at Medaram. Nearly eighty lakh devotees are expected to visit the place. The district administration has spent Rs.14.5 crores for providing amenities to began with the jatara works three months back. Roads were laid in Medaram and surrounding villages at a cost of Rs.2.39 lakh. Bating ghats were built. The district police have been contemplating the proposal to user a helicopter to avoid traffic jams.
Meanwhile, three pilgrims drowned in the Chinnavagu when they went to take a dip in it. The bodies are yet to be recovered. Pilgrims arriving in large number in Medaram for the Sammakka-Saralamma jatara. The biggest festival in the country will begin after placing Saralamma o the gadde. Devotees particularly tribals from the State and neighboring Orissa, Chattisgarh, Maharastra and Madhya Pradesh have already reached the place.
