Students, media men beaten up
Hyderabad, February 13, 2006A private engineering college on the city outskirts turned into a setting for a nightmare with the marshals employed by the management attacking students and even thrashing one of the media person at hand. Mohd Haji Khan, the brother of the Chairman of the Nizams Institute of Engineering and Technology led the marshals and himself brandishing a revolver, threatened to open fire if the students and the media person did not leave the premises. Trouble began in the morning when students stage a demonstration at the college at Pochampalli that the marshals were misbehaving with girl students. When the slogans turned strident, Khan and the marshals drove some of the students away. Those who offered resistance were dragged into the college building and beaten up.
Electronic media personnel who had gone there were also chased. Some of them managed to escape but a TV journalist who tried to flee on a two-wheeler was not so lucky. He was overpowered taken inside and thrashed. Meanwhile, the police arrived on the scene and whished away and Khan and the marshals were taken to police station for interrogation.
