Recovered fake notes sent to RBI Labs
Kurnool, February 11, 2006Police dug pit as many as 50 fake currency notes of the denomination of Rs. 500 from an ATM at the State Bank of India's Main branch in Kadapa on Friday. The presence of fake notes in the ATM came to light when an advocate S.Madhusudana Reddy withdrew cash from it and went to deposit the same in another account at the same SBI branch. The cashier checked the notes and found seven of them to be fake. Not knowing how the fake notes could have come straight from the ATM, the bewildered advocate tried to explain the mater to the bank officials. However, they washed off their hands forcing him to lodge a complaint with the police.
The bank authorities told the police that the notes might not have been withdrawn from the ATM. However, the advocate insisting that he did, a police team led by Circle Inspector V Narayana Swamy withdrew Rs. 25000 from two accounts. Upon verification, they found three counterfeit notes. Later the police opened the ATM, checked the entire cash, and found 47 more fake notes. All the 57 notes including those presented the advocate have been sent to RBI Laboratory in Nasik.
